NextGen Task Force Issues Draft Report

The RTCA NextGen Mid-Term Implementation Task Force, formed earlier this year to guide FAA in expediting NextGen, will deliver a set of operational capability recommendations in five identified “domains” of Surface, Runway Access, Metroplex, Cruise and Access.

The government-industry group, known as Task Force 5, also will recommend two capability areas that cut across the five domains: Integrated Air Traffic Management (ATM) and Data Communications. Finally, it will provide “over-arching” recommendations deemed critical to successful implementation, including financial incentives for equipage such as low-interest loans, subsidies and other mechanisms.

Nearing its end-of-August deadline to produce recommendations, the Task Force held its final plenary meeting Aug. 20 at FAA headquarters in Washington, D.C. During the meeting, Task Force leaders summarized the draft final report, which is available at www.rtca.org. Comments on the report are due by close of business Tuesday, Aug. 25.

RTCA and Avionics Magazine will present the recommendations of the Task Force at the NowGenNEXT Conference Sept. 15 in Washington. For more information, visit www.NowGenNEXT.com.
