Hermes Debuts Heavy Fuel Engine
Elbit Systems Ltd., based in Haifa, Israel, said its Hermes90 UAV completed its heavy fuel engine (HFE) debut flight. Elbit said the new engine uses heavy fuel, a Kerosene-based diesel fuel used in jet aircraft engines. The company said the fuel is a safer alternative to gasoline, and it provides advantages in the naval and maritime field, enabling refueling, launch and recovery on naval platforms and ships.
