Global Vision Cockpit Completes Test Flight

Bombardier on Tuesday announced the successful first flight of the Global Vision cockpit on a Global Express XRS aircraft. The more than five hour flight took off and landed at Bombardier's Downsview facility in Toronto, reaching a maximum first flight altitude of 17,000 feet and a true airspeed of 343 knots. "The new Global Vision flight deck is fantastic, everything performed as expected," said Capt. Gary Bruce, project test pilot, Bombardier Aerospace. "The new Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics suite's large displays, in combination with the synthetic vision system, provide enhanced situation awareness that will surely be a great success with pilots. The comfort and ergonomics of the overall cockpit are like nothing we've ever experienced." Components of the Rockwell Collins‚ Pro Line Fusion suite include high-resolution 15-inch LCD displays, Head-up Guidance System, synthetic and enhanced vision and MultiScan weather radar. Bombardier is the launch customer for the Pro Line Fusion suite; the airframer chose the suite for its Global Express XRS and Global 5000 aircraft. After this test flight, the aircraft will be sent to the Bombardier Flight Test Center in Wichita, Kan., where it will complete a flight test program. The Global Vision cockpit also includes the Bombardier Enhanced Vision System (BEVS), which features the CMA-2700, CMC Electronics‚ SureSight I-Series integrated sensor system for enhanced flight vision system applications.
