[Avionics Today January 30, 2014] General Aviation (GA) operators and pilots have another new option for equipping their aircraft to comply with future airspace mandates, as FreeFlight Systems offers via their partnership with the NextGen Equipage Fund LLC.
Under the new partnership, FreeFlight will make its avionics available for purchase under the NextGen Equipage Fund's more-affordable financing program; the NextGen Fund provides loans and other options for aircraft owners that cannot afford the costs associated with mandated avionics like ADS-B Out, which the FAA
requires in all aircraft by 2020.
There are nearly 200,000 light GA aircraft that need to retrofit their aircraft with ADS-B and other mandated avionics by the FAA
's 2020 deadline, FreeFlight Systems said.
The Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA) also recently announced a partnership with the NextGen Equipage Fund to provide a quick method for avionics shops looking to access the fund for customers.
“It is vital for the future growth and continued U.S. leadership in GA and Air Traffic Management to encourage widespread use of NextGen technologies,” said Tim Taylor, CEO of FreeFlight Systems.
