F-16 Autoland Capability Demonstrated

Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School demonstrated the first autonomous landing of an F-16 Fighting Falcon. The demonstration supports development of autonomous control of an Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV)-type aircraft, Lockheed Martin said.

The Autoland sequence is initiated by the pilot during flight. The aircraft is controlled by an onboard computer, which uses algorithms developed by Lockheed Martin to control attitude, glide slope, airspeed, and descent rate via throttle and flight-control inputs until the aircraft comes to a stop on the runway.
