China Eastern Airlines IFE Launch Customer

China Eastern Airlines will be the launch customer of Rockwell Collins’ dPAVES in-flight entertainment (IFE) system, the companies said. The airline has selected the system for six new Boeing 737-800 and 30 A320 aircraft. The first hardware deliveries will be made in 2008 and continue through 2010. dPAVES, which was introduced in September 2006, is the digital version of Rockwell Collins' PAVES programmable audio video entertainment system. China Eastern Airlines' dPAVES system will feature the 160 gigabyte Broadcast Digital Server including integrated 3D Airshow moving map application; 10-inch retractable LCDs and Flyable Data Loader for loading of digital content. Rockwell Collins said the system provides up to an 85 percent reduction in volume, a 70 percent reduction in weight and a 75 percent reduction in power over the analog system. Additionally, dPAVES offers more storage capability than other digital players, with up to 60 hours of video, including encrypted content, and 128 hours of audio on a 160 gigabyte hard drive.
