Avianca, Lufthansa Select Rockwell Collins Avionics
Avianca and TACA have selected Rockwell Collins’ MultiScan™ Threat Detection System and GLU-925 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR) for new Airbus A330 cargo aircraft. The aircraft will be incorporated into the airfreight company’s Tampa Cargo fleet beginning in December.
Lufthansa Airlines also has selected a package of Rockwell Collins’ avionics, including MultiScan and GLU-925 MMR, for 49 new Airbus aircraft. Various avionics combinations will be installed across Airbus A320s, A330s and A380s.
With MultiScan, flight quality and safety in general will be improved. The system minimizes unexpected turbulence encounters while also reducing the crew workload. The version that will be incorporated in the Tampa Cargo A330 fleet includes new functions, allowing the prediction and display of hail and lightning potential, as well as the presence of thunderstorms and clear-air turbulence.
The GLU-925 is the first MMR certified for precision landing using either Global Navigation Satellite Systems or Instrument Landing Systems. The GLU-925 is the primary navigation sensor for all phases of flight, and meets the stringent Required Navigation Performance (RNP) requirement of RNP 0.1.
Lufthansa’s new A320 family fleet makes up the majority of aircraft (39) receiving Rockwell Collins’ avionics, including TTR-2100 which is a traffic computer-capable Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS II) that offers technology that can adapt to Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast In (ADS-B In) air traffic management requirements.
Deliveries of Lufthansa’s new Airbus fleet with Rockwell Collins’ advanced avionics are under way and will continue through 2015.
