Airbus Builds A350 Assembly Line

Airbus has begun construction of the final assembly line for the A350XWB in Toulouse, France.

The 74,000-square-meter facility, costing 140 million Euros, will house the first stages of final assembly, the joining of the fuselage and wings. Aircraft testing and installation of cabin equipment will be completed at the nearby A330/340 facility.

Airbus in mid-January reported 478 orders for the A350 from 29 customers. The new widebody is scheduled to enter service in 2013.

“The detailed definition freeze at the end of 2008 and the start of construction work on our new final assembly line confirm that the A350 XWB is making steady progress,” stated Tom Enders, Airbus president and CEO.
