Boeing Announces 787, 747, 737 Orders

Boeing and Continental Airlines on Monday announced an order for five 787-9 Dreamliners, bringing the airline’s total firm orders for the aircraft to 25. Continental was the first airline in the United States to order the Dreamliner, placing an initial order for 10 in 2004. It now becomes the first to order the 787-9, accommodating 250 to 290 passengers. "We recognized the benefits of the 787 early, and today's order further demonstrates our confidence in Boeing and the 787 Dreamliner," said Larry Kellner, Continental chairman and CEO. Boeing on Monday also announced that ALAFCO Aviation Lease and Finance Co. of Kuwait has ordered 12 787-8s and six next-generation 737-800s in a transaction valued at $2.26 billion. The airframer said freight company Voga-Dnepr Group of Moscow had ordered five 747-8 freighters, a $1.4 billion transaction. Boeing will conduct a March 19 webcast to discuss the status of the Dreamliner program.
