Boeing completed a system production upgrade for the first NATO Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft under the $1.32 billion Mid-Term Modernization Program. EADS, a
Boeing subcontractor on the project, completed the latest modification on schedule and said the entire fleet of AWACS aircraft is set to be upgraded in 2008. The upgrades to the aircraft include flat-panel displays, a mission computing system, multi-sensor integration, digital communications systems, broad-spectrum VHF radios, and the new Global Positioning System.
