Lufthansa Technik to Use Motorola RFID Systems

Lufthansa Technik AG (LHT) will use Motorola’s radio frequency identification (RFID) system in its Lufthansa Technik Logistik area for tracking aircraft components. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. LHT will deploy Motorola’s RFID systems in all of its facilities in Germany. LHT said the use of EPC UHF tags will help reduce, or even eliminate, the need for manual data entry, avoid delivery errors and accelerate the repair process. "As well as waiting time on the runway, allowing buffer time in the repair shop and in the logistics process for MRO operations also drives up costs," says Martin Stempelmann, project head at LHT.
