VITA 67 RF Module
TE Connectivity (TE), of Harrisburg, Pa., added VITA 67 RF modules, designed to enhance the ability to add RF capabilities in VITA 46 VPX board-to-board connections. The modules, available with four or eight positions, accept SMPM coaxial contacts available for a wide range of flexible and semi-rigid cable on the daughtercard and preloaded board-mount SMPM contacts on the backplane. The modular design allows application-specific configurations with high contact counts in VPX systems. The RF modules are compatible with VITA 65 OpenVPX specification, which defines standard profiles for various configurations at the chassis, backplane, slot and module levels, the company said.
The modules provide a convenient and standardized microwave interface to meet the needs of C4ISR applications such as ground base stations and communication systems, land and sea anti-ballistic signal processing, avionics and ground-based radar systems, and electronic countermeasures. Cessna Aircraft will offer Aircell’s Gogo Biz high-speed Internet capability as a factory option for the Citation CJ4 beginning in the first quarter of 2012. Cessna said its efforts to engineer and certify the system on the CJ4 are underway and are slated for completion in January.
Gogo Biz enables passengers and flight crews to use high-speed Internet above 10,000 feet in the continental United States and portions of Alaska, using their own Wi-Fi enabled laptops, tablets, electronic flight bags, smartphones and other mobile devices.
The CJ4’s standard equipment package includes the Aircell Axxess cabin communications system for worldwide voice capabilities. The new Internet option will add an ATG 4000 high-speed internet transceiver, a Cabin Telecommunications Router and dual antennas mounted beneath the fuselage.
Thales launched a portal dedicated to applications for the TopSeries AVANT system. Called the Thales App Portal, the portal provides a Web-based system for matching existing consumer applications with the TopSeries AVANT system, according to Thales.
The Thales App Portal leverages the Google Android Marketplace in that it lets the user review and purchase applications for their specific hardware system.
Thales said the portal is geared to two different audiences –– airlines and software developers. For airlines, the benefits are content flexibility, lower cost, reduced time to market for new applications and an enhanced passenger entertainment experience. For developers, the value is that they can gain access to a new market, increase brand exposure, and realize licensing revenue.
Data Device Corp. (DDC), of Bohemia, N.Y., introduced a Multi-I/O Advanced Avionics Tester that connects to any USB port to provide comprehensive avionics test, simulation and analysis support.
The BU-67211UX combines up to two dual redundant Mil-Std-1553 channels, with up to eight user programmable Receive/Transmit ARINC 429 channels, and up to two user programmable Receive/Transmit ARINC 717 channels, while providing support for IRIG-B, CANbus, Serial I/O and Discrete I/O interfaces.
The 1553 channels provide features and functionality such as concurrent BC+ Multi-RT+ MT, real-time intermessage event/data modification, error injection and advanced error sampling. Each ARINC 429 channel is programmable to be a transmitter or receiver.
Holt Integrated Circuits, based in Mission, Viejo, Calif., released a family of analog switch products to be used applications such as data bus isolation, battery-operated systems, test equipment and data acquisition systems.
Switch operating range is +/-3V to +/-15V and is controlled by 3.3V or 5.0V logic. The devices are available in industrial -40C to +85C and extended -55C to +125C temperature ranges and come in 16 pin SOIC and 5mm x 5mm 16-pin QFN packages. Visit www.holtic.com.
OnAir, of Geneva, Switzerland, named Dassault Falcon Service (DFS) as an official Reseller Partner of OnAir’s in-flight connectivity system for the Falcon 7X.
As a subsidiary of Dassault Aviation, DFS is a Falcon service centre and fixed-based operations provider. Through DFS, Falcon 7X owners and operators will have access to the communication suite of products.
Boeing subsidiary Jeppesen introduced a Web-based training program featuring Garmin G1000 avionics systems. The online program features three Garmin G1000 training courses, including visual flight rules (VFR) procedures, instrument flight rules (IFR) procedures and VFR/IFR procedures designed to simplify training for current and student pilots.
The programs offer fully interactive courses that integrate a three-step method to teach VFR and IFR flying procedures more efficiently and effectively. The courses are delivered through a secure portal, the Jeppesen Learning Management System. Guided at their own pace, students are presented with exams at the end of each course, to assess training progress and to prepare for certification testing procedures.
