Exelis to Supply Coast Guard Airborne Surveillance
[Avionics Today January 24, 2014] Exelis has a new five-year $32 million contract to supply airborne surveillance radars for the U.S. Coast Guard fleet of HC-130J Super Hercules long-range surveillance aircraft.
Under the contract, Exelis will provide its AN/APY-11 multimode radar. The Coast Guard is looking to use the radar's multi functionality to augment situational awareness for its search and rescue, drug interdiction and maritime environmental support missions.
Pete Martin, director of programs and defenses systems for the Exelis electronic attack and release systems business, said the latest contract validates the company's position in the growing field of intelligence, reconnaissance and analytics. Exelis and partner ELTA Systems first began supplying the AN/APY-11 multimode radar to the U.S. Coast Guard under a 2005 contract award.
