[Avionics Today 06-01-2016] According to the latest market study released by Technavio, the global commercial aircraft Cockpit Display System (CDS) market will grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of close to 3 percent through 2020.
In 2015, the Multi-Function Display (MFD) segment dominated the global commercial aircraft cockpit display system market with a massive 85 percent market share. With the growing number of passenger aircraft, there has been an increasing need for enhanced MFD systems that provide mapping and weather information, altitude, pitch, yaw, roll, and attitude information, and improved ground proximity warning systems. Many MFDs include: display of flight navigation route, Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), Next-generation Radar (NEXRAD), weather radar, Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS), Terrain Avoidance and Warning System (TAWS), and aircraft information on the same screen.
“Some vendors have already started improving their products that would propel the market during the forecast period. For instance, Honeywell Aerospace developed the low-cost enhanced ground proximity warning system, which provides the pilot with a map of nearby terrain with different color codes according to terrain’s elevation. Audible and visual alert systems are integrated with these systems for the prevention of collision with terrain or obstacles,” says Abhay Singh, a lead analyst at Technavio for aerospace components research.
