FAA Launches Online Forum for Unmanned Aircraft Privacy Discussion

FAA said it will hold an online public engagement forum Wednesday April 3, to allow public comments regarding the privacy policy being drafted to regulate the introduction of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) into domestic airspace.

Public comments will provide the agency with guidance on how to address privacy concerns for operating the six UAS research and test sites that are scheduled to be built at eligible sites around the country prior to the full integration of UAS into domestic airspace planned for 2015.

The privacy policy for the UAS test site operations will not pre-determine the long term regulatory framework under which commercial unmanned aircraft use will be governed, FAA said. Officials are looking for public input to address privacy concerns recently raised by lawmakers and advocacy groups such as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

FAA is looking to have the six test sites ready for operation later this year. More
