China Eastern, Okay Airways Select Rockwell Collins HGS for 737s

Rockwell Collins has announced new orders for its avionics systems from China Eastern Airlines and Okay Airways to integrate into their Boeing Next-Generation 737 (737 NG) aircraft.

China Eastern selected the Head-up Guidance System (HGS) from Rockwell Collins for 58 newly ordered 737s, expected to be delivered beginning later this year. The HGS displays critical flight information in the pilot’s forward-facing field of view to eliminate the need to repeatedly transition to the head-down instruments.

“With HGS, China Eastern will now have access to lower landing minima at approved airports throughout China, which means greater probability of landing during low-visibility conditions,” said TC Chan, vice president of Rockwell Collins’ Asia Pacific unit.

Okay Airways, also based in China, selected the HGS for a total of 10 newly ordered 737 NG aircraft, expected to begin delivery in 2014.

Both carriers will be able to use the HGS system to access the seven airports throughout China that have been approved for lower landing minima by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
