BAE Systems to Provide FADEC Support on Southwest 737s

[Avionics Today April 9, 2014] Southwest Airlines has selected BAE Systems to serve as its provider of Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) services for the Full Authority Digital Engine Controls (FADEC) for its fleet of more than 450 Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft.

FADEC International, a joint venture between Sagem and BAE Systems, will perform the MRO support. Southwest first teamed up with BAE for avionics maintenance in 2011, and now the two companies have a new five-year agreement. The U.S.-based carrier's 737 fleet is equipped with CFM56-7 engines.

"By minimizing the turn times of FADECs, we have been able to reduce our spare pool over the life of the fleet," said Bill Tiffany, vice president of supply chain at Southwest.
