Airbus, EADS Selected for SESAR JU Flight Trials

Airbus and EADS will participate in the upcoming Single European Sky ATM Research Joint Undertaking (SESAR JU) Integrated Flight Trials.

The SESAR JU flight trials will begin in early 2013, and are part of the European Commission and FAA program to reduce CO2 emissions by taking advantage of the best available air traffic management (ATM) solutions.

Airbus ATM subsidiaries Airbus ProSky, Quovadis and Metron Aviation will team with EADS division Cassidian to participate in a total of seven flight trials to demonstrate voiceless Controller-Pilot-Data-Link-Communications (CPDLC), Required Navigation Performance with Authorization Required (RNP-AR) approaches at airports, Performance Based Navigation (PBN) flight procedures and more.

“By contributing our teams’ collective expertise in air transport and ATM, the trials will help not only to pave the way for further reducing emissions, but also to optimize capacity and demand throughout the North Atlantic and Continental European airspace,” said Eric Stefanello, CEO of Airbus ProSky.
