Aeromexico 737s Get APB Winglets

Woodrow Bellamy III

[Avionics Today February 24, 2014] Aeromexico is upgrading its commercial fleet of Boeing Next-Generation 737-800s with Aviation Partners Boeing's (APB) Split Scimitar Winglets.

The new winglets achieved FAA certification in early February. APB says the Split Scimitar Winglets are an improvement on its existing Blended Winglet structure, adding new strengthened spars, aerodynamic scimitar tips and a large ventral strake.

APB esteems the winglets will save Aeromexico more than 55,000 gallons of jet fuel per aircraft per year.

"This important structural modification will represent a significant fuel burn improvement in our rapidly growing operations," says Corneel Koster, chief operating officer for Aeromexico. "The installation of these highly innovative winglets will generate close to 170 thousand liters of annual fuel savings per aircraft.
