Keith Phillips recently was named vice president of sales and marketing for Garrett Aviation Services, Tempe, Ariz. He comes to Garrett from Curtiss-Wright Flight Systems, where he was vice president of aftermarket services. Orbcomm LLC: Hoffmann, President & CEO
Orbcomm LLC has named Hans E. Hoffmann as its president and chief executive officer. The announcement of his appointment follows a disclosure that a consortium of Orbcomm licensees and affiliates had purchased the business and assets of Orbcomm Global LP and its other entities. Hoffmann has 35 years of experience in aeronautical and space engineering, as well as in satellite communications. Interstate Electronics Corp.: Huffman, President
Interstate Electronics Corp. (IEC), a subsidiary of L-3 Communications, recently announced that Robert Huffman will replace Richard Tierney as president. Tierney is retiring but will continue in a consulting role. Huffman formerly was IEC’s vice president of marketing and, prior to that, was vice president of engineering at IEC. Tel-Instrument Electronics: Kain, Director of Engineering
Dr. Aron Z. Kain recently was named Tel-Instrument Electronics Corp.’s director of engineering. He formerly was director of advanced technology for Ansoft Corp. and also held a position at TRW Inc. Kain holds a Ph.D. from the University of California-Los Angeles and a master of science degree from Columbia University. ALST: New Officials
Advanced Laser Systems Technology Inc. (ALST), Orlando, Fla., recently announced two new appointments. Burton Sternberg has been named manager of quality assurance. He will implement and maintain a quality system in accordance with ISO-9000. The graduate of Columbia University spent more than 22 years as supervisor of quality control at International Laser Systems Inc.

ALST also recently appointed Helene Dannenberg production manager. She succeeds Ray Herron, who now leads the company’s engineering production configuration and data management activities. In Memoriam: Brian Trubshaw
A memorial service was held Sept. 20 for the man who first flew the British Concorde. Brian Trubshaw, 77, died Sept. 16. He made his historic flight April 9, 1969, from Bristol to RAF Fairford in the United Kingdom. Trubshaw began his aviation career in 1942 when he joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) and flew Stirlings and Lancasters. In 1946 he joined the King’s Flight, piloting King George VI and members of the royal family. For a year, he taught at the Empire Flying School and then began 30 years at Vickers-Armstrong. There he became chief test pilot and worked on the development of the Valiant, Vanguard, VC-10 and BAC-111. Trubshaw ended his career as divisional director and general manager of BAE Systems in Filton, near Bristol. He also was an aviation consultant and member of the board of the Civil Aviation Authority.
