Spreading Wealth Envy

I am not going to belabor our obvious political differences, but please stop misquoting Rush Limbaugh (Editor’s Note, April 2009, page 6). I was listening to that show — one more time for the left wing propaganda machine, the quote was:

"They didn’t give Bush a chance in 2000. Before he was inaugurated, the search-and-destroy mission had begun. I’m not talking about search-and-destroy, but I’ve been listening to Barack Obama for a year-and-a-half. I know what his politics are. I know what his plans are, as he stated them. I don’t want them to succeed."

I could not agree with Limbaugh more. If Obama wants to kill free market capitalism and spread wealth envy, then fail he must. If he wants me to get rich while inventing new avionics applications and create jobs in America, instead of overseas countries with lower tax structures, and not punish me with higher taxes, then I hope he succeeds. Frankly, I think the former is closer to the truth, and there you and I will agree to disagree.

Please keep politics out of technical journals and stick to promoting the industry. You could have defended the time and cost savings of corporate jets, or why not point out the incredible number of corporate jets in attendance at the inauguration?

Joe Ricciardi, Sharpsburg, GA.

Lessons From Canada

I am an avid reader of your e-letter. I agree with you on all points, except the Rush Limbaugh comment. Rush did not say he wanted Barack Obama to fail, he said he wanted "Obama’s socialist agenda to fail." He specifically said he would want the president to succeed if it were not for the agenda.

I run a small business with 20 employees. I arrived from Canada 16 years ago with very little and because of our wonderful capitalist system here in the USA, have been able to employ 20 well-paid people. I became a citizen eight years ago and am very proud of being an American. I know what creeping socialistic tendencies can do to a country and that is precisely why I left Canada.

I suggest you read a book, "The Trouble with Canada," written by a Toronto professor. I believe you will have a different opinion about a lot of things the president is doing after reading the book and seeing the parallels. The USA is just 40 years behind Canada.

Tim C. Lewis, President, Corporate Air Center, Burlington, Wash.

Questionable Economics

Why do you think the hatred of AIG executives was so promoted by the media? (Their bonuses were a drop in the bucket.) Why is the press not talking about the predictable effect of multiplying our national debt?

If the economy is so bad, why are we even discussing carbon credits and socialized health care at this time? Anyone who is honest with themselves can see that the current administration is doing the opposite of what is needed to fix the economy.

If the proposed spending bills pass, I don’t think our economy will recover until World War III.

I hope that opinion makers who supported Obama are not so proud that they can’t admit that they made a mistake, and quickly do what they can to apply the brakes before the train wreck.

John Tillotson
