ATC Tower in Pennsylvania Dedicated by FAA

FAA Acting Administrator Michael Huerta and U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood dedicated the new $20.5 million air traffic control tower at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport in Pennsylvania.

The 118-foot tower is equipped with Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) providing NextGen capable air-traffic capability for flights within a 57-mile radius of the airport.

Air traffic controllers began managing flights from the new tower in August.

“This tower is a symbol of the FAA’s commitment to aviation safety and to modernizing the air traffic control system,” said Huerta. “Upgrading our aviation infrastructure to support NextGen will help to maintain the world’s largest and safest aviation system.”
