Tricky in Hurghada

Take a look at the runway finals image at tinyurl.com/33kczc
Just over the Red Sea from Sinai and down the Gulf of Aqaba from Ovda Air Base in Israel, Hurghada (HRG ) used to be a frontline Egyptian Air Force Fighter Base. However it's now a popular holiday destination for Northern Europeans looking for winter sun and fun. The old runway on the right has been converted into a taxiway but they've left it sporting its runway rubber, discernible threshold piano-keys and runway delineation markings. However because of the rubber deposits on the left-hand runway, you can't see any runway numbering. Unsurprising it was then, that on 28 Mar 07, a FlyLal 737 landed on that taxiway in Hurghada. Luckily there were no other aircraft along its length. The crew was kept for two hours in HRG then released to fly back to Vilnius. The Lithuanian CAA has started off the investigation.
That's the Red Sea in the background. It's the best scuba-diving locale in the world allegedly. (link)
