Transport Security Administration watches Lawsuit with a Vested Interest
If six Imams removed from a Phoenix-bound US Airways flight last Nov 20th prevail in a current lawsuit, the TSA is concerned that passenger participation in the war on terror will be curtailed. Lawyers for the passengers are also pointing out that in future passengers will be very reticent about reporting suspicious behavior if it stands a good chance of backfiring on them due to a legal precedent being set. Passengers became very apprehensive about the six Imams after they made a public show of chanting in Arabic and praying aloud as they waited to board. The religious leaders had been attending an Islamic clerics conference in Minneapolis. Onboard the aircraft their seating and conduct gave further cause for passenger concern. The Imams were disembarked. The clerics are seeking reparations from the unnamed passengers, the airport management and the airline for prejudice. The Transport Security Administration wants passengers to speak up if they see something that's not right or clearly suspicious. Of course it's the action that's then taken that will be accountable. This type of situation might best be addressed by the captain having the right to request Federal Air Marshals accompany the flight.
