The Canadian No Fly List Takes off Today
Starting today (Monday 18 June) a Canadian No Fly list will be applied and Air Canada's security personnel are starting to worry about how they're going to be winnowing the wheat from the chaff and the Smiths from the Browns. Airlines will not see the "No-Fly" list until today. However reportedly the list is very expansive, over 2000 individuals being nominated, and contains many common names. The roll includes the name, date of birth and gender of anyone who might, in somebody's learned opinion, pose an immediate threat to aviation security. The RCMP and CSIS (Canadian Security Intelligence Service) compiled the "Specified Persons List" for Transport Canada. If a finite percentage of innocents isn't grounded, those wielding the lists will be pleasantly surprised - however it's certainly not what they're expecting to be the case. And of course for flights crossing the American border, there will be an application of the US No Fly list as well. Police will be present at security checkpoints to deal with those who may end up a little upset about the new outcomes. Passengers over 18 must carry one piece of government-issue photo ID or two pieces of non-photo ID.
