Sully Back in Driver’s Seat
Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, who piloted US Airways Flight 1549 during its emergency water landing on the Hudson River in January, has returned to work as a management pilot. In addition to his flying duties, Sullenberger joins the US Airways flight operations safety management team. Chairman and CEO, Doug Parker said “US Airways is an industry leader when it comes to safety and Sully is an excellent addition to the team.” Sullenberger said “ I am eager to get back in the cockpit with my fellow pilots in the months ahead. In my new role, I will continue to be the same kind of advocate for aviation safety that I have been for several decades.” First Officer Jeffrey Skiles who was with Sullenberger during the bird strike piloted flights Oct. 1 from Charlotte, NC to New York and back. It was their first time together in the cockpit since the ditching with no loss of life.
