Portable Precision Approach Radar for Brazil
ITT Corp. has received a $9.4 million contract from CISCEA, part of the Brazilian Ministry of Defense. Under the contract, ITT will provide a transportable Precision Approach Radar (PAR)-2000 system. The enhanced precision approach radar is capable of guiding aircraft into the precision approach coverage area for landing. In addition, the contract provides for spares, training and long-term in-country support. ITT Radar Systems-Gilfillan originally sold four fixed PAR systems to Brazil in 1997. Last year, ITT was awarded a contract to upgrade these original systems; work commenced in 2008 and will conclude approximately five years later. Chris Bernhardt, president, ITT Electronic Systems, said the followup contract "demonstrates the longevity of ITT's precision approach radar systems, which are being modernized to deliver continued superior capability for the next 10 to 15 years."
