Military Chopper Crash Kills 17
Seventeen people were killed when a Venezuelan military helicopter crashed on patrol in a mountainous region near the border with Colombia. The dead included an army general, several military officials and a civilian, the state news agency said. Attempts by emergency officials to remove the bodies from the crash site in the southern state of Tachira were complicated by heavy rain and cloud. It was not immediately clear what caused the accident. The soldiers were patrolling the 1,400-mile border separating Venezuela and Colombia when the aircraft crashed on May 3. Reports say radio contact with the helicopter was lost shortly after midday local time.
