FAA Proposes Civil Penalty Against Oregon Airline

FAA proposed an $180,000 civil penalty against McMinnville, Ore.-based Evergreen International Airlines on Monday for allegedly operating aircraft the pilots had not been properly trained to fly according to the airline’s training program.

The airline allegedly operated seven flights in 2009. Additionally Evergreen failed to conduct appropriate required familiarization flights involving the use of the flight management system on the company’s Boeing 747s before assigning those individuals to revenue flights, according to the agency.

The training program, FAA says specifically calls for familiarization flights in Class I and II airspace, which include ground-based navigation aids and airspace without ground-based aids, respectively. The airline provided only Class I flights.
