[Aviation Today March 11, 2014] The FAA
has issued a Category 1 rating for aviation safety to the Republic of Azerbaijan after determining that it complies with international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Azerbaijan's rating was issued following an October 2013 review of the State Civil Aviation Authority of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SCAA) by the FAA
. The agency also visited the country last month.
Previously, Azerbaijan did not hold an International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) rating.
"A Category 1 rating means the country’s civil aviation authority complies with ICAO standards. With the International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) Category 1 rating, the Republic of Azerbaijan’s air carriers can add flights and service to the United States and carry the code of U.S. carriers," the FAA said in a statement.
