Achievements in Aviation Safety

Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) recently announced the winners of the Honeywell Bendix Trophy for Aviation Safety and the Aviation Week & Space Technology Distinguished Service Award at a dinner co-hosted with Honeywell. The dinner was held at the Churchill Cabinet War Rooms in London and attended by members of the media and special guests of the hosts. The Honeywell Bendix Trophy was presented to the Mode S Radar Tools Project for the invention and implementation of two important new tools for maintaining aircraft separation in high-traffic terminal control areas. This is a project of the National Air Traffic Services (NATS), the U.K. air navigation service provider. The recipient of the Aviation Week & Space Technology Distinguished Service Award is Capt. Dave Carbaugh of The Boeing Company. He was recognized for his lifetime achievements in aviation safety, including the work he has done to promote flight safety awareness, training, standard operating procedures and tools for pilots and maintenance technicians. He is a noted expert on subjects such as airplane tail strikes, in-flight upset recovery, wake turbulence, controlled flight into terrain and approach and landing accident reduction.
