The usually reliable Iranian Mehr News Agency (MNA) is
reporting that German Federal Police have arrested three Arab suspects (a man and two women) for placing bombs aboard a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt's Rhein Main Airport to Tehran. Supposedly the detainees have confirmed that their plan was to detonate their devices over Iranian territory. German Security has not yet made any statements about the incident in which a Lufthansa 747 flight "was halted only moments before its scheduled take-off for Tehran at 6:00 p.m. local time - after the Lufthansa call-center in Dublin, South Ireland, received an alert."
Passengers were evacuated but according to the spokesman for the Federal Police at Frankfurt's airport, Klaus Ludwig, Lufthansa flight 600 resumed its flight to Tehran at 2.37 a.m. Wednesday morning - after nothing was found. MNA is insisting that "it has now emerged that explosive experts of the Federal Police found and defused two time-delay bombs - one inside the airplane door and another planted in one of the engine compartments". MNA is also claiming that "a number of Frankfurt Airport staff have been arrested in connection with the terrorist operation".
Propagandistic fomentation by a state known to support terrorist groups is always possible, although MNA has previously acted responsibly in order to protect its reputation for honest reporting.
