Adam Air has painted its ill-fated plane, which made a hard landing at Juanda international airport in East Java's capital of Surabaya Wednesday. Fortunately no-one was injured.
Antara news agency reported today that the whole body of the
Boeing 737-300 plane has been white-washed thus disguising the dominant orange color of the low-cost airline. The move by Adam Air management was assessed by local aviation and airport officials as tolerable "so long as there's no loss of evidence of the accident". Investigators from the Indonesian National Commission for Transportation Safety (KNKT) are still enroute to the crash site. One wit said that it's probably because they're reluctant to fly Adam Air. The wreckage meanwhile is very distinctive, with an aft fuselage that's now drooping in excess of 35 degrees - from what it should be.
Surabaya is well-known for its collection of wrecked aircraft around its airport's perimeter. Just outside Juanda airport are the large Maspion factories. Maspion is Indonesia's largest maker of aluminum household items (pots/ pans etc.) They are close to an inexhaustible supply of cheap scrap metal.
