Boeing Defends Derivative Cert for 747-8

In a response to Airbus contentions that Boeing plans to certificate the 747-8 as a derivative of the original 747 and such plans would make it less safe, Boeing defended its decision, adding Airbus comments “were a sign of desperation.” It also said that the certification standard was up to regulatory authorities, not Boeing. It called suggestions that derivatives were unsafe “outrageous.”
