MU-2 Sheds Over Chicago

As if the MU-2 does not have enough trouble, it is now being blamed for house damage when an engine’s turbine wheel crashed through a home near Midway Airport, falling into the bedroom of the homeowner, who, while rudely awakened, didn’t think enough of it to do anything but go back to sleep. At first thinking it was a part from a ceiling fan, she said it was so hot it ultimately burned through the carpet to the floor. The aircraft was on freighter duty, landing safety without declaring an emergency or notifying air traffic despite significant engine and wing damage. The FAA said the pilot should have notified authorities. The Mitsubishi MU-2B-36 is registered to American Check Transport dba Flight Line Inc and was found by the FAA in a Midway hangar. It was enroute from Milwaukee.
