The
FAA has awarded a 2008 Safety Mark of Distinction Award to Daytona Beach International for the staff’s dedication and effort to improve airport safety. The airport was recognized in particular for its graphic Notam system and wildlife hazard management program. The graphic Notam system is a notification system for airfield tenants, which details the extent of closures or restrictions to an airfield. The award covers the
FAA’s southern region, which includes 10 states and 101 qualifying airports. Since 2004, only 12 airports in the region have received the award.
The La Crosse Municipal Airport also won a 2008 safety award from the U.S. aviation agency. The award was given out to one airport in the Great Lakes region, which includes 95 commercial airports like La Crosse. Airport Manager Dan Wruck said the award reflects their ongoing commitment to safety, including the recent construction of a second runway.
