No injuries He stated that he was "slow" on final and when he touched down using a soft field landing procedure, the airplane was "pushed" off the runway by a wind gust, contacted a snow bank with the left main landing gear tire, and nosed over.
March 02, 2008 Scribner, NE Piper PA-22-135 N3212B The airplane received substantial damage when it ground looped during landing on runway 17 (4,200 feet by 75 feet). No injuries The left wing was damaged when it contacted the runway. Winds were reported as 210 degrees at nine knots.
March 05, 2008 Takotna, AK Cessna 185 N1224F The pilot was taking off on a short, snow-covered runway in a ski-equipped airplane. During taxi, the airplane would not respond to nose-wheel steering, and a post flight inspection revealed damage to the propeller, nose landing gear, and firewall. No injuries The student pilot reported 21 hours of flight experience, and stated that there were no deficiencies with the performance and handling of the airplane.
March 13, 2008 Chugiak, AK Stinson 108 N6827M It was the first flight after an extensive rebuild, and annual inspection of the airplane. The pilot said he conducted a preflight inspection of the airplane using its checklist, and had several maintenance items corrected before takeoff. He said that as the airplane became airborne, it immediately rolled to the left, and the left wing struck the runway. One minor injury A post-accident inspection of the airplane by the pilot, maintenance personnel, and an FAA inspector, revealed that the aileron control cables were misrouted, and the aileron's direction of travel was reversed.
March 13, 2008 Back Gate, AR Air Tractor AT602 N602KP The pilot had completed an aerial application flight and was returning for the second load. During the landing on a private grass airstrip, the tail-wheel equipped airplane started to slide. The pilot stated that the grass was wet from the morning dew, and that he could not get the airplane to stop. No injuries The airplane subsequently slid into a small levy and culvert, resulting in separation of the left main landing gear. The airplane received substantial damage and came to rest in the inverted position
March 14, 2008 Marble Canyon, AZ Beech C23 N9374S The pilot observed that the wind sock was about halfway extended, and he estimated that the wind was from 270 degrees at 20 knots, with gusts to 25 knots. During the landing flare, the crosswind suddenly decreased in intensity, and the airplane impacted hard onto the runway's surface. Thereafter, the airplane veered right and exited the runway. No injuries The pilot did not indicate that he had experienced any mechanical malfunction or abnormality with his airplane prior to the mishap.
March 15, 2008 Bebi Airstrip, Nigeria Beechcraft 1900D Departed Lagos-Murtala Muhammed Intenational for Bebi Airstrip Three fatalities The airplane took off from Lagos en route to Obudu. March 16, 2008 Idabell, OK Cessna 150 N554SP The 58-hour student pilot checked the automated weather reporting station for the airport. The pilot stated that the station was reporting 27 to 35-knots sustained winds with gusts from 40 to 45-knots. The pilot then landed on runway 02 (a 5,000-foot by 75-foot asphalt runway) with 0-degrees of flaps. No injuries He added that during the flare, a gust of wind "picked-up" the right side of the airplane and subsequently the airplane dropped to the runway.
