VEM sent a team of 46 mechanics and engineers to complete onsite maintenance for
Boeing’s final MD-11, which was delivered yesterday to the company’s facilities in Rio de Janeiro. The overhaul occurred outside of a hanger and included changing the aircraft’s three engines and large-scale structural repairs, which involved cutting the entire belly of the airplane to install new structural elements and doors for the main landing gear. Performing maintenance outside of the hangar required VEM to adapt processes and build some of their own tools. F
