United To Sell San Fran Maintenance Operation
United Airlines is planning to sell its San Francisco, Calif. aircraft maintenance operation and mechanics and other supporters are protesting with petitions and leaflets. Opponents are saying that this type of maintenance outsourcing could create a significant risk to the flying public because many times there isn’t enough oversight in place for international maintenance and the FAA doesn’t have jurisdiction over non-domestic MROs. “We wouldn’t want our own families flying in unsafe planes, and we don’t want our customers exposed to that risk either. Foreign mechanics with too little oversight should not wind up in charge of United’s fleet,” said Rich Petrofsky, a mechanic that has been with United for nearly 40 years. For related news
