Tests Validate 787 Modification

Boeing has completed its review and analysis of a static test that validated a side-of-body modification on the 787 Dreamliner. The company has also finished gauntlet testing on the prototype aircraft. During the static test, engineers subjected the wing and trailing edges of the airframe to its limit load, or the highest loads anticipated during service. The limit-load test is required before the aircraft’s first flight, which is expected to occur today. The static and gauntlet tests were carried out Nov. 30.
