SAIB Focuses on Light Switches

FAA has issued a special airworthiness information bulletin (SAIB) to advise Cessna 100, 200 and 300 series operators regarding mandatory replacement of landing light, beacon light and taxi light switches. The SAIB references Cessna service bulletins MEB09-3 and SEB09-6, released May 11, which calls for inspection and replacement of switches that have been in service four or more years. Operators have reported switch failure leading to smoke in the cockpit, as well as burned insulation on the wiring terminals. FAA recommends taking the actions in the Cessna service bulletins within the next 400 hours of operations, 12 months or during the next annual inspection, whichever happens first.
