Pratt & Whitney, Southwest Demo EcoPower

Officials from Southwest Airlines and Pratt & Whitney hosted a demonstration of the EcoPower engine wash at Dallas Love Field (DAL) on Thursday. The event was designed to show the benefits of the system, which has saved more than 9 million gallons of fuel and reduced CO2 emissions by 90,000 metric tons since Southwest implemented EcoPower in July 2006. According to the companies, Southwest has saved $12.5 million in fuel costs as a result of a total of 1,500 engine washes. Pratt & Whitney performs the service for the airline’s CFM-56-7B engines through service center locations in Orlando, Fla. and Oakland, Calif.
