Pratt & Whitney Invests in Green Engines

Longueuil, Quebec-based Pratt & Whitney Canada is planning to invest $360 million over three years into research and development into green technologies in aircraft engines. The decision comes after the Quebec government approved reimbursable funding for R&D that will be paid back from royalties on sales. Under the agreement, Investissement Quebec will ante up another $125 million over the same period to support P&W's facility in Longueuil. The manufacturer also has an R&D center in Mississauga, Quebec. The funding will be used for "further improving engine technology required to pass the world's most stringent environmental standards," while focusing on performance, durability and operating economics, according to P&W.
