NVGs Receive TSO Approval
Tempe, Ariz.-based NIVISYS has obtained FAA TSO-C164 approval for its NVAG-6 night vision goggles. The TSO — the second the company has received — allows NIVISYS to produce NVGs for civil aircraft. Lee Stephens, senior technical applications manager, explains that, “the reason for the second TSO is that the FAA does not allow for the approval of a ‘series’ or ‘family’ of image intensifiers.

Each image tube type/model must be approved under the TSO.” Gary Higman, manager of aviation and homeland security programs, adds that the TSO expands the company’s ability to support EMS, law enforcement and search and rescue operators.
