Lockheed Super Star Repairs Begin
Deutsche Lufthansa Berlin-Stiftung is planning to start repairs as part of a project to restore a Lockheed L-1649A Super Star. Work will be carried out at a new maintenance hangar at Auburn-Lewiston Airport (LEW) in Maine, where a formal opening ceremony took place on Nov. 20. At the new hangar, technicians will conduct full checks of the primary aircraft structure and overhaul various systems, as well as update the cockpit and cabin, including the wires, cables and leads. The repairs follow preliminary work on various components, including the radome, landing flaps, rudders and fairings. Lufthansa Technik subsidiary, BizJet of Tulsa, Okla., performed renovations on the tail unit, and work on the Curtiss-Wright engines is also underway.
