Leaner Snecma Shop Begins Operations

Snecma has implemented a number of lean manufacturing practices at its facility in Villaroche, France. The effort, which started in 2007, included re-engineering the site’s CFM56 production test shop. Snecma said the changes were designed to improve efficiency and working conditions while bolstering the “visual environment” to reflect the company’s capabilities. Based on several lean manufacturing concepts, the re-engineering is centered around a moving line, in which engines go through five specific stations at a rate based on demand.
