Honeywell Secures APU, Maintenance Deal

China Eastern Airlines has chosen Honeywell Aerospace’s 131-9A auxiliary power unit (APU) for its fleet of 30 recently ordered Airbus A320s. The 10-year contract includes a maintenance element to service the APUs. Mike Madsen, Honeywell VP of airlines, says that the APU reduces fuel consumption by more than five percent, in turn lowering emissions and cost of ownership. The company estimates that China Eastern will save around $300,000 annually in fuel costs.
