Phoenix-based Honeywell has unveiled its F125IN, a high-performance military variant of the F124 that the company claims will lower maintenance costs and bolster reliability. The 9,850-lbf-thrust engine is being considered for the Indian Air Force’s Jaguar re-engine program. Vicki Panhuise, Honeywell vice president of military aircraft, says the F125IN will increase Jaguar capabilities by “improving mission performance, enhancing pilot safety, reducing pilot workload and reducing maintenance events and costs.” The engine has a dual full-authority digital engine control (FADEC) system, engine health monitoring system and a high thrust-to-weight ratio. Other features include resistance to bird strikes, low unscheduled removal rate and low in-flight abort rate. Honeywell projects that the engine would save the Indian Air Force more than Rs 7,000 crores ($1.5 billion) in life cycle costs compared to other upgrade alternatives.
