The U.S. Navy is planning to inspect all of its 636
Boeing-built Hornet aircraft after finding “fatigue cracks” on more than a dozen aircraft currently on missions overseas. Each aircraft will be checked for cracks in a hinge that connects the aileron to the wing. Failure of the hinge “could result in loss of the aileron, possible further damage to the aircraft, or possible loss of the aircraft,” the Navy says.
