Hamburg Lufthansa Engine Facility Opens

Lufthansa Technik held a ceremony on Dec. 15 to dedicate its new 15,000-square-meter (161,460-square-foot) engine overhaul center at its corporate headquarters in Hamburg, Germany. The company has invested around 50 million euros in the complex since construction began in October 2007. Plans call for the first engine overhauls to take place at the facility in early 2009. Lufthansa estimates that the center will create more than 2,000 maintenance jobs and increase the capacity in Hamburg from 320 to 400 overhauls each year.
